Schedule: 4-8 hours (varies depending on event); generally weekend evenings (Fridays and Saturdays). Full-time availability is not required, however, candidates with more availability during weekend evenings will be prioritised.

About the job:
EQUIPE Outreach Liaisons support safety, care and well-being of event participants including audience members, artists, volunteers, and staff during events and programs. Led by the Debaser Harm Reduction Lead and working in conjunction with Debaser staff and security personnel, EQUIPE Outreach Liaisons support the implementation of event policies and procedures with respect to safer spaces, anti-oppression, and harm reduction.
Tasks will include but may not be limited to:
Monitoring event participants to identify incidents or matters of concern, such as harassment, violence, oppression, bullying, over-consumption or intoxication, mental or physical health emergencies, or high-risk behaviour.
Communicating effectively with team members on-site, alerting necessary team members about incidents and emergencies in a time-sensitive manner, and completing evaluations and incident reports as required.
Performing interventions with participants that are in a state of distress or crisis, or are engaging in harmful or oppressive behaviour. These interventions may include helping someone intoxicated get home safely, creating a conversation with an individual making others uncomfortable at events, assisting someone who has been drugged against their will, assisting someone who has been triggered, dialoguing with security if any individuals need to be removed from an event, or any other intervention required during the event.
Informing participants on our services and mission, handing out safety and harm reduction supplies, sensitizing participants to harassment in party spaces as well as to a more inclusive party practices and giving them cues on bystander intervention.
Participating in regular training and information sessions focused on safety and harm reduction best practices and specific event policies and procedures.
What we’re looking for:
The following skills and qualifications would be assets to this position, however not all are required. If you don’t have direct experience in any of these areas, we encourage you to let us know about any other experience that has equipped you to succeed in the role as described above.
A deep understanding through training or work/community experience of anti-oppressive practices and intersectional approach to feminism, anti-racism, LGBTQIA+ activism and other oppressions
A good experience of party spaces as a party-goer
Capacity to work long hours on your feet (4-8 hour shifts) in loud, crowded spaces, and remain alert, observant, and able to communicate effectively
Capacity to handle pressure and face crisis situations
Capacity to interact and intervene with intoxicated people in a non-judgmental way aligned with harm-reduction practices
Training, license, or work/community experience in de-escalation, sexual assault response, First Aid, CPR, drug-related harm reduction, naloxone intervention, security guard license, and/or mental health crisis response
Work experience or post-secondary studies (completed or in progress) in fields related to intervention, either psychology, sexology, social work, psychoeducation or anything similar.
Strong oral and written communication skills
Fluency in English and proficiency in French
