Asinabka Festival joins Debaser to co-present WHOOP-Szo & Zoon

January 21, 2020

On Thursday, January 30, the two Indigenous-led post-rock bands will play Ottawa venue Pressed with local group No Mistakes in Space

The Ottawa stop on WHOOP-Szo's 'Winter Warrior Tour' comes after the London, ON band's 2019 album Warrior Down made it onto several Best of 2019 lists, including Exclaim! (Most Underrated Albums), Dominionated (#1), and Ottawa's own Photogmusic (#13). Warrior Down currently sits at #6 on Earshot's campus and community radio charts.

We are also pleased to present Hamilton band Zoon, led by Ojibway artist Daniel Monkman. Their MBV-inspired forthcoming full-length album Bleached Wavves is an autobiographical account of Monkman's struggles living with addiction.

The show follows the first night of Asinabka's annual outdoor snow screening series at Lansdowne Park. The stories in this film program come from the Inuit, Sami, and other northern Indigenous cultures that have thrived in the arctic regions of the world for thousands of years (Films TBA).
