Artist lineup
Simone Provencher
Simone Provencher is a multi-instrumentalist and improviser who has been active in the experimental music community for several years. She first made her name with the franco post-punk band VICTIME, with whom she has been performing for the past eight years. More recently, she settled into a more exploratory approach, focusing more on improvisation and electronic manipulation, releasing “Mesures” on Michel Records in 2021, as well as “Album” (2021) and "Portrait de l'artiste" (2023) with the aptly named local jazz outfit Album, born out of her collaboration with Hull-based percussionist and producer Olivier Fairfield.
Nick Schofield
Nick Schofield is a Gatineau-based musician, producer and ambassador of ambient music. With a signature hopeful ambient essence that unites his solo and group projects, Nick has been dubbed a "dazzling electronic artist" by Aquarium Drunkard and "synth maven" by Constellation Records. Nick actively performs concerts, and has played at National Sawdust in New York City, the Getty Museum in Los Angeles and MUTEK in Montreal, opening for acclaimed artists Sarah Davachi, SUUNS, Hauschka and Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith. Nick has a BFA in Electroacoustic Studies from Concordia University in Montreal, and now works as the technical director with artist-run-centre SAW in Ottawa.
SUBR
SUBR صبر is a deep listening music project by DJ and creative Lougien Dawoudiah. Through reconfigured music controllers and layered speakers, SUBR offers a study into Palestinian traditional sounds, modern productions, and field recordings. The immersive soundscapes are sonically framed with deep ambient tones that carry a series of altered Palestinian music, produced by deconstructing, filtering and examining its bare elements: drums, harmony, vocals, bass.
The name SUBR (صبر) is based on the Arabic word "Sabir" which means patience, forbearance, tolerance. The same word also means cactus: Thorny, resilient. Sometimes it flowers, sometimes it bears fruit.
